The SUP Challenge programme – Circular Food & Beverage Accelerator in Vietnam

In The SUP Challenge from the PREVENT Waste Alliance innovation programme “Innovate and PREVENT” several Entrepreneur Support Organisations (ESOs) will support start-ups in tackling single-use plastics in the F&B industry in South and Southeast Asia.

In Vietnam, the ESO “Schoolab” partners with the Incubation Network and CL2B, with funding supported by the PREVENT Waste Alliance, to initiate The SUP Challenge Programme – an acceleration program to support and pilot local initiatives focusing on reducing or avoiding single-use plastics in the Vietnam F&B industry. Schoolab welcomes startups, SMEs, NGOs and teams of students that are based in Vietnam and currently working on products, services towards refill, reuse and/or plastic material alternatives, to join us to tackle this challenge!

In South and Southeast Asia, there is an increasing demand for packaging, particularly single-use plastics (SUPs), dominated by polystyrene and other types of hard to recycle plastics, including flexible (films, sachets, etc), which by 2025, are projected to make up more than 70% of the market for food packaging in the region. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the consumption of single-use plastics, associated with food packaging and plastic bags, has increased drastically as well. Most seen in the food service, as it heavily utilises single-use packaging. The industry is now facing a heavy demand and a challenging landscape.

Therefore, to tackle these challenges, Schoolab, an active member of the Green Growth Sector Committee, has been partnered with The Incubation Network and CL2B to operate The SUP Challenge – an acceleration programme to support and pilot local initiatives focusing on reducing or avoiding single-use plastics (SUP) in the Food & Beverage industry in Vietnam with funding supported by the PREVENT Waste Alliance.

Schoolab is looking for startups based in Vietnam and currently working on products/services towards refill/reuse and/or plastic material alternatives. They accept applications from different maturity levels, SMEs, NGOs, or a team of students with ideas or products.
