New Publication: Minimum Requirements for Electronic Waste Compensation Services
The PREVENT Waste Alliance is pleased to announce the publication of Minimum Requirements for Electronic Waste Compensation Services, developed by members of our Working Group on E-Waste.
As interest in e-waste compensation mechanisms continues to grow, ensuring the credibility, transparency, and effectiveness of such approaches becomes increasingly important. This publication establishes a baseline framework of minimum requirements for electronic waste compensation services, helping to ensure that compensation activities deliver meaningful environmental and social benefits while supporting the transition towards a circular economy.
The publication outlines key principles and requirements related to:
- Collection and treatment of e-waste
- Environmental and social safeguards
- Transparency, reporting, and verification
- Additionality and impact
- Legal compliance
- The relationship between e-waste compensation and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems
- Geographic prioritisation of compensation activities
By defining these minimum requirements, the publication aims to support organisations seeking to engage in e-waste compensation schemes and contribute to greater consistency and integrity across the sector.
The publication was developed collaboratively by members of the PREVENT Waste Alliance Working Group on E-Waste:
- Laura Vecoli and Reinhardt Smit (Closing the Loop)
- Andreas Manhart (Öko-Institut)
- Piotr Barczak (Africa Circular)
- Stefan de Linde (Minimise)
- Andreas Nobell (TCO Development)
- Mimoun Batou (Argo360)
- Andrea Scholz (Vodafone)
- Dylan Roman (NIU NIU)
- Alexander Frenzel and Jana Mandel (GIZ)
The PREVENT Waste Alliance extends its sincere thanks to all contributors for their expertise and commitment in developing this joint publication.
