WCEF2022 Accelerator Session: Practical Implementation of the Basel PIC Procedure for Exporters from Developing Countries

On the 8th of December 2022, the StEP Initiative, Closing the Loop and the PREVENT Waste Alliance co-organized the session “Basel PIC Procedure for Exporters from Developing Countries”.

This event was an Accelerator Session at the World Circular Economy Forum 2022 (www.WCEF2022.com).

The Basel PIC procedure is an important process to be able to export waste from developing countries, and therefore to develop a good recycling industry in these countries. The process is however complicated and unclear.

As a follow-up to the paper that was published as a joint PREVENT/StEP initiative (Practical Experiences with the Basel Convention: Challenges, Good Practice and Ways to Improve Transboundary Movements of E-Waste in Low and Middle Income countries, see here), the session explored next steps. It focused on how to help the industry comply with these regulations, working together with regulators and the industry.
