Wasteaware

Wasteaware is an independent not for profit organisation that works at the forefront of development practice in the waste and resources management (WaRM) sector globally.

We face an enormous challenge. The rising tide of climate change threatens the Earth’s ecosystem, plastic materials inhabit the heights and depths of the Planet, over two billion people lack access to basic waste collection services. Ocean plastics, Climate change, Sustainable development, Circular economy, Green growth are converging agendas. How effectively, and how quickly, countries align policy, institutional, financial, economic, and environmental regulatory frameworks to the new challenges will have a long-lasting effect on economic competitiveness and social welfare. As policy makers, development practitioners and change agents, we must work together closely, synergise our efforts and drive forward innovation.

Wasteaware’s focus is on developing and disseminating methodologies, tools and knowledge sharing. We are the custodian of the Wasteaware ISWM Benchmark Indicators (WABIs), a partner in the Waste Flow Diagram (WFD) approach to estimating plastics pollution, and part of the team rolling out the Waste Wise Cities Tool – the SDG 11.6.1 indicator for City assessments. We have many more methods and tools that we will be sharing in the near future through our portal https://rwm.global/.
