First in-person meeting of the Plastic Waste Partnership working group

The Basel Convention Plastic Waste Partnership working group successfully held its first in-person meeting at the start of March. Four project groups dedicated to specific topics were established, and the parties involved, including the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, will finalise the relevant work plans for the biennium 2020-21 in the coming weeks. Pilot projects are expected to start in early 2021.
Further information on this meeting is available here.

With the aid of experts from every UN region, the Basel Convention has developed a complete set of guidelines, including fact sheets on various waste streams. The purpose of these documents is to ensure that waste is managed in an environmentally responsible manner. The documents also form an important basis for the work of PREVENT.
