Consolidation workshop on PREVENT’s EPR Toolbox

As final step of the creation of a Toolbox on extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging waste, a consolidation workshop was held virtually on 7 May 2020. Around 60 PREVENT members took the chance to discuss and share their expertise on this topic after the materials, as well as the feedback received from partner countries had been presented. Furthermore, the participants identified potential application options for the knowledge tool.

Our PREVENT working group on closing loops for packaging is currently working on the creation of a toolbox on extended producer responsibility (EPR) with support of the working group on conserving resources. Experts from various countries are involved in the development process.

The EPR Toolbox is a collection of relevant know-how on the topic of producer responsibility and packaging management. It is developed for the application in low- and middle-income countries, in particular.

On behalf of PREVENT, cyclos GmbH is currently compiling expert knowledge, information, and training materials. During the last months, the consultants held working meetings with partners in Ghana and Indonesia where the EPR Toolbox was presented to selected partners in a participatory way. This generated valuable feedback that has been integrated in order to create a toolbox that is generally applicable to different country contexts.

As final step of the creation process, a consolidation workshop was held virtually on 7 May 2020. Around 60 PREVENT members took the chance to discuss and share their expertise on this topic. Furthermore, the participants identified potential application options for the knowledge tool. The received feedback will now be incorporated into the final version of the toolbox, which will be publicly available on our PREVENT website in the third quarter of 2020.
