Circularity of post-consumer plastic packaging material in Germany: how far are we?

To achieve the Circular Economy targets, the post-consumer plastic packaging (PCPP) sector needs cross-cutting strategies that include all stakeholders of the value chain. A study of the Hamburg University of Technologies examines the flows of PCPP throughout the waste value chain in Germany.

To achieve the Circular Economy targets, the post-consumer plastic packaging (PCPP) sector needs cross-cutting strategies that include all stakeholders of the value chain. A study of the Hamburg University of Technologies on the flows of PCPP throughout the waste value chain in Germany proved that the net material recycling rate is lower than 40% of that generated in households and that circular economy targets are only achievable through collaborative policies.
