What does it take for women to lead the circular transition and what can emerging economies learn from one another?
Women remain underrepresented in the leadership and decision-making processes that shape the circular economy. At the same time, a gender perspective is still rarely integrated into how circular policies, business models, and financing mechanisms are designed.
This WCEF2026 Accelerator Session brings together women leaders from Brazil and India, two of the world’s largest emerging economies, for a South-South exchange on gender, leadership, and the circular economy.
Following short contributions from each panellist, a moderated conversation and open audience discussion will explore their experiences, lessons learned, and practical approaches to strengthening women’s leadership in the circular transition.
Brazil will contribute insights from concrete, government-backed developments, including a national sustainable finance taxonomy that integrates social objectives such as gender and racial equity alongside climate goals. The session will also showcase the experiences of a growing community of women leaders bringing a gender lens to circular-economy policy and business.
The discussion will connect these experiences with the Indian context and with other emerging economies facing similar challenges related to scale, inclusion, and inequality. Participants can look forward to an open and practical conversation and the opportunity to exchange directly with the speakers.
As a legacy of the session, a short white paper will capture the key insights and lessons exchanged, helping the discussion travel beyond the room.
The session is organised by the Ministry of Finance of Brazil, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, and the Instituto Elas na Economia Circular.
Please note that this is an in-person event. Registration does not automatically guarantee onsite attendance. Registered participants will be informed in due course whether a place is available.
